DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug treatment facilities are generally there on their own accord, but usually in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while under the influence in the future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
