DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment centers are either there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug rehab as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while drunk or high later on. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
