DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in alcohol and drug rehab programs are either there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehab as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while intoxicated down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
