Criminal justice clients are those who are in any sort of alcohol and drug treatment facility as a result of alcohol or drug related criminal offense. This will occur for instance when someone is found guilty of a DUI or DWI, or for any other kind of drug related offense that has led the court to believe the individual has any kind of drug or alcohol use issue. Not everyone has the option of getting involved in an alcohol and drug rehab program as a criminal justice client, but if this option is ordered through the court it is well advised that the individual do everything they can to take full advantage of this chance. In many cases, other penalties and consequences might be entirely eliminated or lessened when the individual succeeds in rehab and completes the drug treatment program which was ordered for them. First time offenders are the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been established that criminal justice clients that do experience treatment in place of other consequences have much lower recidivism rates than people who find themselves ordered to incarceration or similar consequences. In the long run, it saves the court system both time and expense when criminal justice clients obtain powerful treatment.
