DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be ordered to rehab either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of staying out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use.
