DUI/DWI clients who're involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol treatment due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of staying out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while under the influence in the future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
