DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug rehab programs are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be required to go to rehab either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their substance abuse when they drive while under the influence down the road. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
