DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug rehabilitation facilities are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders might be required to go to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while intoxicated in the future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
