DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug rehabilitation centers are generally there on their own accord, but generally in drug treatment due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
