DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could be ordered to treatment either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This will truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse should they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
