DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders might be ordered to treatment either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while drunk or high down the road. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
