Outpatient treatment gives treatment clients the opportunity to sustain certain responsibilities and elements of their way of life while getting involved in drug and alcohol rehab services. Outpatient treatment is a moderate level of rehab, and should not be mistaken for the degree of rehabilitation offered in an inpatient or residential rehab program which can be much more intensive. Outpatient treatment could be suited to someone who has a short history of substance abuse for instance, but will almost certainly not be adequate for an individual whose treatment needs go beyond what outpatient treatment is able to provide. Individuals dealing with drug abuse often need an extreme environmental change, because most of the things which prompt their drug abuse are strictly environmental. For instance, if a person is being physically or psychologically abused and this is prompting their drug or alcohol use, it's impossible for any rehab efforts to have success if they go back to such conditions on a daily basis. In outpatient treatment, individuals can take advantage of group and one-on-one counseling, in addition to family counseling services. In outpatient treatment, most facilities will provide services six or seven days each week on either a part time or full-time basis for four weeks or longer in some instances.
