DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab programs are generally there on their own accord, but generally in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of staying out from the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
