DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol treatment centers are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be required to go to treatment either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This may certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
