DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug rehab facilities are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug and alcohol treatment due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders might be required to go to treatment either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out from the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their substance abuse when they drive while under the influence down the road.
