DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be required to go to treatment either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse.
