DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol treatment centers are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug rehabilitation as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could possibly be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse whenever they drive while under the influence down the road.
