DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug rehab programs are generally there on their own accord, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of remaining out from the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
