DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment facilities are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of remaining out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while intoxicated later on. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
