DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab programs are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be required to go to treatment either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of staying out from the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while under the influence in the future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
