Criminal justice clients are individuals who are in any type of alcohol and drug rehab program because of alcohol or drug related crime. This will happen for instance if someone is convicted of a DUI or DWI, or any other kind of drug related offense that has led the judge to think that the individual has any sort of drug or alcohol use issue. Not every person has the option of getting involved in an alcohol and drug rehabilitation program as a criminal justice client, but when this option is ordered by the court it is strongly advised that the individual try everything they're able to to get the most from this chance. In many cases, other penalties and consequences could be entirely eliminated or lessened if the individual does well in treatment and completes the drug rehabilitation center that is ordered for them. First time offenders are the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been established that criminal justice clients who take part in rehabilitation in place of other penalties have much lower recidivism rates than those who are ordered to incarceration or receive other penalties. Eventually, it saves the court system both time and money when criminal justice clients receive effective treatment.
