DUI/DWI clients who're involved in drug and alcohol treatment centers are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse when they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
