DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug treatment facilities are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in alcohol and drug treatment as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be ordered to rehab either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of staying out from the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
