DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug rehabilitation programs are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be ordered to treatment either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that people who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high down the road. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
