DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in alcohol and drug treatment as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders might be required to go to rehab either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of staying out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
