DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment centers are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug treatment as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be required to go to treatment either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while drunk or high down the road. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
