DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be required to go to treatment either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
