DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug treatment facilities are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be ordered to rehabilitation either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high down the road. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
