DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but usually in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders might be ordered to treatment either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while drunk or high down the road. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
