Dual diagnosis is a circumstance in which two independent disorders exist, and most often describes a co-occurring drug or alcohol use and mental health disorder. A dual diagnosis may help someone that may not have been able to be helped in the past, finish substance abuse because they can be accurately diagnosed and treated. Their mental health disorder could have been misdiagnosed, undiagnosed, or treated incorrectly that could have triggered and led to their substance abuse problems. Establishing the fact someone is certainly a dual diagnosis client not just helps establish a highly effective treatment plan for them, but will also help clients better know what triggered their drug use and the way to prevent it down the road. Addressing dual diagnosis might be a more extensive process than the usual typical drug rehab program, and folks with a dual diagnosis might be required to participate in an extensive aftercare program that might include appropriate medical support as well as further treatment services. Being diagnosed with co-occurring disorders doesn't imply the individual will need to be medicated through out their lives either, and in reality many people with a dual diagnosis experience more effective results when treated holistically and when alternative treatment solutions are utilized.
