DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab programs are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug rehabilitation due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse whenever they drive while intoxicated down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
