DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehab programs are generally there on their own accord, but usually in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse should they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
