DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab centers are either there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be ordered to treatment either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their substance abuse whenever they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
