DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug rehabilitation due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders might be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while under the influence in the future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
