Dual diagnosis can be a circumstance in which two independent disorders exist, and most often denotes a co-occurring drug abuse and mental health disorder. A dual diagnosis will help a person that may not have been capable of being helped in the past, put an end to drug abuse because they can be accurately diagnosed and treated. Their mental health disorder might have been misdiagnosed, undiagnosed, or mistreated which may have prompted and resulted in their substance abuse problems. Establishing the truth that someone is actually a dual diagnosis client not just helps establish an efficient treatment plan for them, but could also help clients better know what caused their substance abuse and how to prevent it in the foreseeable future. Handling dual diagnosis can be a more extensive process than a typical drug rehab program, and people with a dual diagnosis might need to participate in a substantial aftercare program that might include proper medical support along with further treatment services. Being clinically determined to have co-occurring disorders doesn't mean that the individual must be medicated for the rest of their lives either, and in fact lots of people with a dual diagnosis experience much better results when treated holistically and when alternative therapy is employed.
