DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to rehab either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of staying out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
