DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment centers are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehab due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while intoxicated down the road. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
