Dual diagnosis is a circumstance whereby two independent disorders are present, and most often describes a co-occurring drug or alcohol use and mental health disorder. A dual diagnosis may help someone who might possibly not have been able to be helped before, stop substance abuse by being properly diagnosed and helped. Their mental health disorder could have been misdiagnosed, undiagnosed, or treated incorrectly that may have triggered and led to their drug abuse issues. Establishing the truth that someone is certainly a dual diagnosis client not merely helps establish an effective treatment course for them, but can also help clients better understand what triggered their drug abuse and the way to prevent it later on. Addressing dual diagnosis may be a more extensive process compared to a typical drug rehab program, and people who have a dual diagnosis may need to participate in a substantial aftercare program that might include appropriate medical support along with continued rehab services. Being diagnosed with co-occurring disorders doesn't mean that the person must be medicated for the remainder of their lives either, and in reality a lot of people who have a dual diagnosis experience much better results when treated holistically and when alternative treatment solutions are utilized.
