DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could possibly be required to go to rehab either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high later on. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
