DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of staying out from the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while under the influence down the road. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
