DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment programs are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be ordered to rehabilitation either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their substance abuse when they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
