DUI/DWI clients who're involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug rehab due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could be ordered to rehab either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their substance abuse when they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
