DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
