DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders might be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This may certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while under the influence later on. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
