Native American and Alaska Native people tend to have considerably higher rates of substance abuse then other racial backgrounds. Native Americans and Alaska Natives can either receive treatment in a conventional alcohol and drug treatment facility if treatment is provided in their language, or benefit from center which was developed exclusively to deal with these clients in their language exclusively. Drug and alcohol treatment centers which offer rehabilitation in Native American or Alaska Native Languages provide either a traditional approach including rehabilitation plans based off of the 12-step method, or there are alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers with rehab programs using their language which provide a more holistic and alternative approach. Since several aspects of the Native American and Alaska Native cultures center on holistic healing and so on, these clients can greatly benefit from an alternate alcohol and drug rehab center which incorporates these components of their culture into a thorough rehabilitation plan in their language. Native Americans and Alaska Natives who require rehabilitation and would like to take advantage of a treatment setting ideal for their traditional healing practices can even take part in rehab services at many programs and drug and alcohol treatment centers which strive to give a tranquil setting.
