DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug rehab as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be ordered to treatment either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of staying out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while under the influence in the future.
