DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug rehab as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of remaining out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while intoxicated down the road. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
