DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug rehab centers are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while drunk or high in the future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
