DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug rehabilitation programs are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug rehab due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could possibly be ordered to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of remaining out from the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while intoxicated in the future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
