DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehab programs are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could possibly be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of staying out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse whenever they drive while intoxicated in the future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
